ROSS MAY , Elaine

2017

Sadly we announce the passing of Elaine Ross May on Monday, May 8th, 2017 at the age of 92.   Elaine was born in Montreal to Gertrude Budge Ross and George Allen Ross. She grew up in Westmount and attended Trafalgar School. In 1945 she graduated from the University of Toronto School of Occupational Therapy. She married William Weir May in 1947 who predeceased her.   Throughout her career, she worked at the Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Queen Mary Veterans’, the Montreal General and Pasteur Hospitals, Montreal Rehabilitation Institute and Recreation for the Handicapped.

In 1972, Elaine founded the Montreal United Workshop Association and in 1976 was awarded the Order of Canada for her work re-integrating residents with challenges as productive members of society. She was a tireless community volunteer for numerous groups and causes. Elaine was an inspiration to all who knew her - full of new innovative ideas - always off on another adventure.  Well remembered for her antics of scavenger hunts, tipping canoes, catching frogs and kick the can.

Elaine is survived by her children William (Valerie), Shirley Tagalik (James), Diane (Robert Bean) and grandchildren Cameron (Jessica), Kukik (Darryl), Duncan, May (Donny), Keely (Dan), Olivia, Ryan (Rebecca); great-grandchildren Natalie, Quasa, Qaviajak, Alexander, Blake, Aria and Angutimmarik.

A celebration of her life will take place in July at Weir Memorial Park in Ogden. She requested that tax deductible contributions be made for the beautification of Weir Memorial Park, 125 Descente 20, Ogden, QC, J0B 3E3.
