MANNING (NÉE WEST), Mildred

1932 - 2022

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mildred Manning (née West) on February 26th. Born in Nova Scotia, Millie’s lifelong connection with music began early, leading to her vocation as a music teacher. She began teaching in Nova Scotia (CFB Cornwallis) before moving to Saint-Eustache, where she met her beloved late husband of 52 years, Peter Manning. Millie’s public teaching included choral singing, which she enjoyed greatly. While raising her family in the West Island area, she continued to teach piano and voice, and for a time led the youth choir at the Ste Genevieve United Church.

Millie liked to laugh and enjoyed a good party. She and Peter shared a love of travel and were able to visit many places together over the years. Millie was a larger-than-life figure whose sense of humour will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her sons Andrew (Colin Abbott) and Tony, her brother James Laurence West (Ruth), as well as loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and long-time friends.

A private event and graveside ceremony will be held in the spring. The family encourages the sharing of any memories of Millie, please see the “Write your sympathies or tribute” space below to leave a message.

For those who would like to send personal words or sympathy cards by mail, please feel free to do so and send to Cass Funeral Homes, 3006, rue College, Sherbrooke, J1M 1T9.

Donations may be made in her memory to: The Cedars Cancer Foundation, www.cedars.ca, or The Arthritis Society www.arthritis.ca

My deepest sympathies to you all at this difficult time. I have too many fond memories of your mother to mention here, but I shared her love of music and she would often give me tips on vocal techniques when I visited Also many, many great memories of my visits to Montreal and Nova Scotia summers. Peter and Milly are together again.

My heart goes out to you all, it has not been an easy time.
Rest assured that your mother, mother-in-law, and my aunt Millie will never be forgotten for her love of family, music, fondness for animals, sharp wit and mighty inner strength. Love and hugs from Shauna & Julian xoxo
