PITMAN PARKER, Gwendolyn Mabel

1921 - 2018

A woman of strength, commitment and pragmatic wisdom, Gwen passed away peacefully at Grace Village in Huntingville on December 12th, 2018, in her 98th year.

She leaves to mourn her daughter Susan, son Michael (Debbie), and grandchildren Matthew (Holly), Stephanie (Chantelle) and Kimberley Parker. She is fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as various former students from her days of teaching in Ayer’s Cliff and other areas of the Eastern Townships. She was predeceased by siblings Aileen, Doris and Douglas Pitman, and her husband Sterling Parker.

Gwen began her teaching career in small one-room schoolhouses in the Eastern Townships. After seventeen years of full-time teaching, she married and took time off to raise a family, doing supply teaching for a number of years. In later years, Gwen devoted a great deal of her time and energy to the Women’s Institute both locally and provincially, at one time serving as president of the Quebec Women’s Institute.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, caregivers and other staff at Grace Village for their patient and loving care over the years, particularly following a stroke Gwen suffered in 2013.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 17th at 1:00 PM in the Upper Hall of Lennoxville United Church, followed by a funeral service in the sanctuary at 2:00 PM. Interment at Reedsville cemetery in North Hatley. Reception to follow in the Lower Hall of Lennoxville United Church.

In lieu of flowers, those that wish may make a donation to Lennoxville United Church or a charity of their choice.
