Bernies family

We extend our deepest sympathy to all. Many of our memories of Bernie go back to Sunnyside School and the amazing work he could manage with only the use of one arm. RIP

Meta Smith

Dear Meta,
As you mourn the passing of Bernard, please accept my deepest sympathy. I would like to share a memory of Bernard with you. Following Jean's funeral when we met at their home in Dorval many people brought food to share and Bernard brought these delicious squares . I asked him for the receipe and later he mailed it to me. I still have it. And through the years I made them many times. They are called "Honeymoon Squares".
I hold you and your family in my heart.

My cousins and families

My memories of Uncle Bernard date back to when I was probably five or six as my Mother and Father drove our family regularly from Dorval to the farm and later to Stanstead to visit Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Bernard. Most particularly in Stanstead after Grandpa's passing I remember Uncle Bernard as the best of hosts helping Grandma make us all feel welcome including with his supply of cookies and sweets. I remember his garden and his picking of fresh vegetables for meals. I am certain that he had a hand also in supplying what became five small kids in our family with those tiny toys that kids cereals supplied in their boxes back then to each of us almost every visit. Someone, either Grandma or Uncle Bernard was eating a heck of a lot of kids cereal!
Uncle Bernard never missed sending us a Christmas card each year since Grandma's passing and stayed in touch. Uncle Bernard had challenges physically but was immensely independent in how he lived his life and was as kind as anyone could be to each of us over the years.

Meta and family

I just want to send my sympathies on the passing of Uncle Bernard.
When growing up, our family made many trips to Stanstead to visit our Grandma McIntyre and our Uncle Bernard. I remember Uncle Bernard as always being soft-spoken and kind. I think it was he who tended to the gardens and did a lot of tinkering and repairing of things. I was sorry to hear that he passed away but will remember him fondly.

Meta, Russel and Cecil

Dad and I would like to express our sincerest condolences to each of you. We had heard the news of Uncle Bernard's failing health recently but it's still difficult to lose a loved family member when the time comes.

I have many fond memories of our visits to Stanstead to see both Grandma McIntyre and Uncle Bernard. I recall how quiet Uncle Bernard always was, but that he'd open up and talk with me when it was more of a one on one situation. He also delighted in showing us the results of his green thumb in that huge backyard garden, which amazed us from Dorval!

We will miss Uncle Bernard and cherish our memories. Gary and Harvey Bennett
