SMELTZER, Arthur Joseph (Art)

1929 - 2021

Passed away peacefully on August 8, 2021 at age 91 years and 11 months, Arthur Smeltzer husband of the late Pearl Smeltzer (Frame). He was the last of his family, being predeceased by sisters Miriam, Lois, Ruth and brother John.

He is survived by daughter Brenda (Gerald) and son Brian (Melissa) and was the beloved grandpa to Noah.

After graduating from the famed Lunenburg Academy, Arthur continued his education at Dalhousie University and the Nova Scotia Technical College. Art worked in the pulp and paper industry his entire career, throughout the world, for almost 40 years. Places of work included a start in Windsor Mills (Quebec) but includes employment thereafter in Nackawic (New Brunswick), Alexandria (Egypt), Malaysia, two stops in other cities of Quebec and finally in Kenora (Ontario).

His great interest in sports includes participation in basketball, golf and curling. Arthur coached a women’s basketball team when he arrived in Windsor Mills. Arthur was the President of the Windsor Curling Club three times. Arthur enjoyed to travel throughout North America having driven to St. John’s (Newfoundland), Vancouver (BC), Anchorage (Alaska), Halifax (Nova Scotia), The Grand Canyon (Arizona), Edmonton (Alberta) and Orlando (Florida). On many occasions, stopping to visit the many nieces and nephews that will be missed.

Many thanks to the staff of the Wales Home for their care and dedication during his four year stay at the centre.

At Arthur’s request, there will be no exposition. Following cremation, interment will be in the Windsor Protestant cemetery at a later date.

We respectfully ask that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to The Windsor Cemetery Company, care of Kevin Morey (treasurer), 140 Rankin Street, Windsor Quebec J1S 1Y5.

What a man he was. I will always cherish the memories I have of him; He thought me a lot about respect, love and mutual understanding. He left me something even though, we barely knew each other so I cannot imagine what he gave to all of you. I wish you all a peaceful grief.
