With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rev. Dr. R. Deane Moffat on July 3rd, 2019 at the age of 76, dear husband of Rev. Doreen Keet-Moffat.
Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn, his children; Jim (Brenda Murray), Leslie (David Toporchak) and Dorothy (Eric Alexandre). He will be sadly missed by his siblings; Marilyn (the late Bob), Wally (Patsy), Barry (Patricia), and ten grandchildren, their spouses/partners, members of the Keet family as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and so many, many dear friends.
Visitation will take place at St-Paul’s United Church (211, Pine St, Magog, QC) on Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m and Monday July 8, 2019 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., with the Celebration of Life to follow at 3:00 p.m.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the caregivers from the Palliative Care Unit of the CSSS Memphremagog for the excellent care provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in his memory, to any charity of your choice. For example, Deane served and supported many organizations including, but not limited to, St-Paul’s, Beulah or Georgeville United Churches, Canadian Cancer Society, Georgeville Historical Society, Copps Ferry Museum, Sherbrooke Snow Shoe Club, Fitch Bay Brookside Cemetery Association.
With heartfelt sympathy at the passing of Rev. Deane, one of the dearest ministers who graced the pulpit of St. Andrew's United, Delson.
I know that my grandparents, and my parents (Harold Sr. and Gladys Ball, and Harold Jr. and Dorothy Ball held him in very high regard, as did all of the folks he ministered to during his time there.

I was privileged to serve with Deane in Montreal Presbytery beginning in 1990. Although we hadn't pursued a friendship over the years, the hospitality of your company and your home (to us and our friends) was a treasured gift in 2015 at the time of our anniversary. Dear Doreen,
I just got this news and it is still hitting me. You two have been so close for so many years, perhaps more than any other couple I have known. Deane was leaving UTC when I was entering (the first time!). He has been my minister, my friend, my colleague with whom I did not always agree. He is the person who encouraged me to go for ministry again when I thought all bridges were burned and doors closed to me. I would not be where I am today but for his counsel. I will try to attend the service on Monday. I know you will have a lot of support from your family and friends.

Words can't express my sadness on learning of Deane's passing. He was truly a beacon to the entire community: kind, wise and the soul of integrity. His words were always well thought out and were just what was needed to ease someone's pain, smooth over differences or help someone find the right path. What a very sad shock to read of Deane's death in the Record yesterday. We assumed over the years that he would be around for ever, kind, steady , always the good husband, father, willing and able Pastor. Deane will be missed by our family; remembered by me as a serious student at UTC, a supportive and wise colleague over the years. Rita-Claire never forgets his caring and creative ministry at Summerlea, and, with you, his ministry with her parents. Together you represented the essence of team ministry.
And, what an example of parenthood you showed to all! Firm and fun loving; together with you, Jim, Leslie and Dorothy and the grandchildren will miss Deane greatly.
