Crosby, Albert Harris

CROSBY, Albert Harris

1934 - 2021

Albert passed away peacefully after a brief stay at the Maimonides Geriatric Centre in Cote Saint-Luc – a 10-minute drive from his apartment – where he had lived for more than 50 years.

Albert was the last Crosby of his generation, having been predeceased by his parents, Martha and Charles, and his siblings Gilbert, Grattan, Margaret and Anne-Marie. He is survived by sisters-in-law Edith and Florence, niece Pamela (Gordon) and nephews David (Joanne), Bill (Francoise), Derek (Jodi) and Gary (Leanne), and all their kids.

Albert grew up in Lennoxville, spent a year at St. Francis Xavier University, and then took a job at Esso – where he worked until his retirement over 30 years ago.

Albert was fiercely independent, and, like his siblings (and arguably many members of the next generation), he could be stubborn – sometimes making it challenging for friends and family to get him to accept assistance….and anyone that knew him could share examples!

The best one-word description of his personality, which he freely admitted to, would have to be “quirky”….as he had no shortage of interesting issues that impacted his day-to-day living. He knew what Metro stations to avoid due to steep escalator rides, where to sit in his favourite restaurants to avoid the cool breeze from the air conditioners, and how to get places without using elevators (to name a few).

Interesting quirks aside, he was really just a good guy. He treated people with respect, and expected to be treated the same way. Over his last few months, he spent time at both St. Mary’s Hospital and Maimonides, where he made a lasting impression on all those who assisted with his care. (And there are too many to thank individually….so a BIG thanks to all!)

A celebration of life will be held in Lennoxville, once it is safe to do so. Details will be available on the Cass Funeral Home website.

Albert Harris Crosby

I have always admired your independence. You made a lasting impression on me many years ago and for that I am truly grateful. I am sad that your time here has passed but glad that you are no longer in pain. I know that you will be remembered by so many people and missed by those who love you.

I remember meeting 'uncle' Albert and instantly feeling like this is a man I would enjoy getting to know.
I also remember how fond Gary was of him.
My deepest sympathies to all of you.
